Day 2: Buses, Downtown Prague, Cross Cultural Training, and more

Medieval restaurant

Bus ticket

Since I was not used to the time change yet, I only slept for about 3 hours last night and woke up around 5:30am. I decided to journal for a little bit and do my morning devotionals since breakfast was not until 7am. Then I had a brilliant idea of taking the bus because I needed to get a few things since my bag was still missing. Luckily I got off at the right stops and made it back to the hotel alive. The bus I took and for the majority of most public places, people keep more to themselves and do not talk loudly compared to public places in the U.S. It was a very nice change.

After breakfast, I hung around the hotel and worked out until the rest of our team got in. There had been some flight issues so I had been praying that they got in safely. Thankfully around 1pm 3 of the 4 girls on our team had arrived. We were just waiting on one more who was stuck in Amsterdam. Blake, our team leader took us to his "flat" or apartment for some cross cultural training. We took the good ol transportation and got to experience it like a local although I'm sure we still stood out as Americans.

After the training, Blake took us to downtown Prague for a little sightseeing. Although I have been to Prague many times, it still amazes me each time. Compared to the U.S. there is just more history behind the buildings, landmarks, and culture. Bara met up with us on the Charles Bridge as we walked over to our dinner spot. The restaurant was not a typical Czech restaurant as Bara had warned us but rather a Medieval times sort. There were bagpipes, belly dancers, and animal skins on the walls. Nikol, another friend of ours who works for the Czech Association of Cheer and coach of JNS, met us at the restaurant as well. The restaurant was known for their extravagant meat dishes, but I ordered the vegetarian plate that was just as delicious!

Prague at night
After dinner, Patrick another host and member of JNS, took us on a little hike to see Prague at night. It was a beautiful view and completely breathtaking. Then Blake took us to the "love lock" bridge as well as the John Lennon wall. By now, everyone was still jet lagged and exhausted, maybe even delirious so we were hanging on by a thread during the drive back to the hotel.

Tomorrow, we are heading to Doksy, which is about an hour's drive where the camps will be held. At noon we will have practice and get everything together for camp since it starts Sunday. I most likely will not get wifi there so I'll try my best to record everything in my journal and post up here when I can! :)
